We need the right solutions in the right places and NOT industrial scale wind farms in inappropriate locations

About Us

ThWART is a non-political organisation. It was originally set up as a campaign group to combat the inappropriate siting of industrial scale wind turbines in rural areas of the Isle of Wight. In addition, ThWART is committed to supporting development of renewable energy projects of the types that are appropriate for the location they are planned.

ThWART provided assistance in the defeat of a planning applications for industrial wind turbines at wholly inappropriate sites at Wellow and Cheverton on the Isle of Wight. Thwart is also opposed to applications at Ventnor Golf Club and Span Farm, although numerous smaller schemes have not been objected to by Thwart.

The Island's unique, unspoilt and intimate landscape is a major attraction for visitors. The effect of industrial developments of this kind could have a critical impact on the Island's tourism and cause damage to it. The Island must look for renewable energy schemes that work effectively and are appropriate for the Island.

ThWART would like to see the Isle of Wight Council adopt a sound renewable energy policy, based on renewable energy solutions other than industrial wind turbines, which do not damage the Island's landscape and economy.
